1942 Negro League World Series: Kansas City Monarchs (NAL) def. Homestead Grays (NNL), 4-0(*)

The Negro American League began play in 1937 but it took until 1942 for the Negro League World Series to resume. The 1942 World Series matched up two of the most iconic Negro League teams, the Kansas City Monarchs (KCM), representing the Negro American League, and the Homestead Grays (HOM), representing the Negro National League.

Newspaper coverage of the Negro League World Series of the 1940s was somewhat weaker than it had been in the 1920s. In the 1920s, Retrosheet has found newspaper play-by-play accounts for 34 of the 36 World Series games played. For the 1940s, Retrosheet has thus far found only one newspaper play-by-play account (for the final game of the 1942 World Series from the Baltimore Afro-American). Newspaper game stories for most Negro League World Series games of the 1940s were still typically quite good and were generally sufficient to construct deduced play-by-play accounts. While generally quite good accounts, these accounts are not as robust as the game accounts from the 1920s based on explicit play-by-play detail.
