Unusual Ballpark Features That Affect Balls in Play

Wrigley Field, Chicago - The entire outfield wall is covered with ivy vines (see photo 1). A fair batted ball that lodges in the vines is a dead ball and all runners are awarded two bases. If the ball enters the vines and rebounds back onto the field, it is in play. The outfield wall also has a screen attached near the top. A fair fly ball that lands in the screen is a home run. A fair bounding ball that strikes the screen and rebounds back onto the field is in play. A fair bounding ball that lodges in the screen is a dead ball and each runner is awarded two bases.
